President Tinubu Approves Federal University for Southern Kaduna

In a significant stride towards education and development, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the establishment of a federal university in Southern Kaduna. The announcement was made by Vice-President Kashim Shettima during a condolence visit to the family of the late Agwom Akulu of Ikulu Chiefdom, His Highness Yohanna Sidi Kukah, in Zangon Kataf Local Government Area, Kaduna State.

The late Agwom Akulu, a revered traditional leader, was a relative of Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah of the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto. Vice-President Shettima’s visit underscored the Federal Government’s commitment to fostering growth and addressing the challenges faced by Southern Kaduna.

During his visit to the Ikulu Kingdom in Kamuru, Shettima shared the news of the federal university approval, stating:
“With the support of Senator Katung and a member of the House of Representatives, we approached President Tinubu, and he has approved the establishment of a federal university in Southern Kaduna.”

In addition to the university, plans are underway to establish a Federal Medical Centre in Kafanchan, further enhancing access to education and healthcare in the region.

Commitment to Development and Security

He highlighted the appointment of General Christopher Musa as Chief of Defense Staff as evidence of President Tinubu’s focus on ensuring peace and stability in the area.

“Rest assured that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu deeply values the people of Kaduna, particularly Southern Kaduna,” Shettima said.

He also commended Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, for his inclusive governance and emphasized the Federal Government’s partnership with the state to drive development, particularly in improving road infrastructure.

Voices of Gratitude
Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah, speaking on behalf of his family, expressed his appreciation for the vice-president’s visit and concern for the Ikulu community. He called attention to the dire state of infrastructure in the region, especially the dilapidated roads.

“I want to thank you on behalf of this family. Your presence here means a lot,” Bishop Kukah remarked. “You can see the nature of the place in which we live. It took you around three and a half hours to get here. The road is largely broken. I know you will remain a friend of this Ikulu nation and this community. We are honoured to have you.”
