The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially declared Wednesday, December 25th, and Thursday, December 26th, 2024, as public holidays to mark Christmas and Boxing Day. Additionally, Wednesday, January 1st, 2025, will also be a public holiday in celebration of the New Year.
This announcement was made earlier today in a statement from the Ministry of Interior, signed by the Minister, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo. In his message, Dr. Tunji-Ojo extended warm festive greetings to Nigerians and encouraged everyone to embrace the spirit of the season.
The Minister emphasized that this period should be used as a time for reflection and the promotion of core values such as love, peace, and unity. He highlighted that the holidays offer a valuable opportunity not just for personal and spiritual rejuvenation, but also for reinforcing collective harmony among families and communities. Dr. Tunji-Ojo urged Nigerians to uphold the peace and work towards strengthening national unity.
Reflecting on the true meaning of Christmas, Dr. Tunji-Ojo called it a time for spiritual growth and national renewal. “As we celebrate the birth of Jesus, the Prince of Peace, let us all take this opportunity to show compassion, kindness, and goodwill to those around us, regardless of our differences,” he stated.
In addition to his festive message, the Minister also reminded Nigerians to remain vigilant during the holiday season. He encouraged citizens to report any suspicious activities or individuals to the relevant security agencies, ensuring a safe and secure environment for all.
Dr. Tunji-Ojo also took the opportunity to highlight the government’s commitment to the “Renewed Hope” agenda under President Bola Tinubu. He expressed confidence that 2025 will usher in a year of prosperity, peace, and national growth.
In conclusion, the Minister wished all Nigerians a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year, reinforcing the government’s commitment to fostering a peaceful, secure, and economically robust nation in the year ahead.
