In a shocking turn of events, Timilehin Ajayi, a 32-year-old suspect, has confessed to the gruesome murder of his girlfriend, 24-year-old corps member Salome Adaidu. The incident occurred during Adaidu’s visit to Ajayi’s residence in the Papalana area of New Karshi, Karu Local Government Area, Nasarawa State.
Adaidu, who was serving in Abuja, met a tragic end when Ajayi allegedly dismembered her body after the killing. Ajayi was apprehended on January 12 while attempting to dispose of her severed head. The Nasarawa State Police Command has since remanded him in custody, and the tools allegedly used in the crime—a knife and machetes—were displayed during his parade at the police headquarters.
In an exclusive interview with Channels Television, Ajayi, visibly injured from a mob attack prior to his arrest, admitted to committing the heinous act, citing jealousy as the trigger. According to him, the murder was unplanned but fueled by suspicions of infidelity.
“I killed her because we don’t have each other all the time. It’s not something I planned—it just happened,” Ajayi stated. “She was cheating. She hides things from me, and I discovered chats with other guys on her phone. That was why I decided to act.”
When asked about remorse for his actions, Ajayi’s response was chilling. He expressed no regret, claiming that his actions were justified based on his interpretation of reciprocity in relationships.
“I don’t have any regrets because life is reciprocal—that’s what I thought,” he said. “If you must do something to someone, you have to be reciprocal with that person. You need to understand what that person is going through and put yourself in their shoes. That’s why I don’t have regrets; we were compatible.”
The tragic incident has sparked widespread outrage and debates about mental health, jealousy, and the consequences of unchecked emotions in relationships. Meanwhile, the authorities continue their investigation, ensuring that justice is served for the late Salome Adaidu.
