Police Deny Investigating VeryDarkMan’s Alleged Missing N180m NGO Funds

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has denied involvement in any investigation regarding the missing N180 million from online personality Vincent Martins Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan’s (VDM), non-governmental organization (NGO).

This comes after VDM claimed that over N180 million intended for his NGO was stolen from its account following a hacking incident. In a report published on Friday, Vanguard covered Otse’s allegations, which included a statement that he had reported the matter to the police and was heading to Jos to track down one of the suspected hackers.

The controversy emerged in October when Otse launched the Martins Vincent Osei Initiative and quickly raised more than N35 million in donations. Soon after, he announced a significant N100 million contribution from popular music producer Michael Collins Ajereh, better known as Don Jazzy.

Following the reported hacking of the NGO’s account, Otse stated that he temporarily shut down the NGO’s app for maintenance to avoid further breaches, assuring his followers that he would provide updates on the situation.

However, FCT Police Command spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, clarified that the police were not investigating the matter. She said, “The FCT Police Command has no information regarding any missing funds involving VDM, nor is there any ongoing investigation into the matter. The individual concerned should be contacted directly for details on where the case was reported, as we have no record of such a case with our command.”

With the police officially distancing themselves from the claim, it remains unclear where the case was reported or what further steps Otse will take to resolve the situation.
